Thome and Wanta Present at Eighth Circuit NELA Conference

Joni Thome and Shawn Wanta presented at the 2018 Eighth Circuit NELA Conference held in downtown Minneapolis. This two-day biennial conference brought together lawyers and professionals from Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska who represent employees and face common substantive issues to the practice of employment law in the Eighth Circuit.

Shawn Wanta presented alongside Bert Braud and moderator Rebekah Bailey on practical E-Discovery strategies for the plaintiff’s lawyer. The panel focused on evolving technology and usage issues, as well as practical techniques and strategies for navigating electronic discovery. Shawn leads the class action and complex litigation practice group at Wanta Thome PLC and has become a go-to resource on E-Discovery issues. Shawn is a member of The Sedona Conference® Working Group Series, which seeks to develop best practice recommendations for information governance and electronic discovery in litigation, dispute resolution, and investigations.

Joni Thome has been a leader in transgender employment rights for more than 20 years and has taught on the subject as an adjunct professor at Hamline University School of Law (now Mitchell Hamline School of Law). Joni joined panelists Phil Kitzer and Ferne Wolf and moderator Jill Silverstein to discuss trends in the law, litigation strategies and best practices to identify issues and protect the rights of transgender clients. Joni is the founder, past chair and board member emeritus of the Minnesota Lavender Bar Association and past chair and board member of the National Gay and Lesbian Law Association. She has received multiple awards for her work on behalf of the LGBTQ community and employees throughout Minnesota.
