Thome featured in MWL 50 Years, 50 Voices

Joni Thome was featured in July 2022 in Minnesota Women Lawyers (MWL) 50 Years, 50 Voices. MWL is an organization of more than 1200 attorneys, judges, law students, and others dedicated to advancing the success of women attorneys. To celebrate their 50th Anniversary, MWL’s 50 Years, 50 Voices initiative presents weekly profiles of women attorneys and shares their experiences and insight in the profession. The goal of the series is to highlight the impact of women attorneys in Minnesota and for members to “find commonalities, respect differences, and simply be inspired.”  Other women recognized so far include the Honorable Susan Richard Nelson, U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota, and Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Anne McKeig, as well as other as other judges and women leaders in the legal profession.

Joni’s interview discusses the start of her legal career, describing how her path to law school, and specifically employment law, came from her own work experiences, stating, “I went to law school to represent those who are oppressed by systems that take advantage, hold them down, and squash their voices.” She goes on to explain how employment law has evolved since the start of her practice, providing her top tips for success as an attorney and predicting what changes women attorneys will see in the next ten years.
