Thome Presents at Workers’ Compensation Institute

Firm partner Joni Thome has co-presented with Workers’ Compensation attorney Thomas Atkinson of Atkinson Gerber Law Office over the years.  In 2022, the seminar titled “Employment Claims to Watch Out for and Consult with an Employment Lawyer About” was presented at the Minnesota Workers’ Compensation Institute.  Thome and Atkinson discussed employment law issues that often intersect with workers’ compensation claims, such as retaliation, federal medical leave requirements, disability claims and employment releases from workers’ compensation settlements. They also spoke on their own experiences in jointly representing clients that have both workers’ compensation injury claim and employment related claims.

Employees who have been injured on the job often hire workers’ compensation attorneys to help them navigate the workers’ compensation system, file a claim and recover damages for their injuries. These employees may also have employment law claims arising from their work situation that are separate from the workers’ compensation system. Employees should contact an employment attorney to understand their rights.
