Scott Moriarity Sues on Behalf of Former RSM US Wealth Management Employee Alleging Whistleblower Retaliation

As reported in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal on October 4, 2021, firm attorney Scott Moriarity filed a whistleblower lawsuit against RSM US Wealth Management. The lawsuit alleges that RSM fired the whistleblower for reporting her supervisor’s illegal attempt to trade on a deceased client’s account.

Trial Win for Wanta and Thome in Workers’ Comp Retaliation, Disability Discrimination Case

Attorneys Shawn Wanta and Joni Thome won a victory for a former manager for Storage Management, Inc. when a Hennepin County jury returned a verdict in favor of their client. The plaintiff was terminated from his job after reporting an on-the-job injury over the course of several months that lead to his termination. The verdict was read on August 27, 2021.

Scott Moriarity Presents CLE on Executive Agreements and Severance

Firm attorney Scott Moriarity presented a CLE, “Counseling Executives & Key Employees About Employment Agreements,” for Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Scott discussed the concerns of high-level employees, including disputes and negotiations over pay, bonuses, stock options, and equity participation. Scott also addressed severance packages and emerging issues with noncompete and nonsolicitation clauses. Mitchell Hamline will be making this presentation available for on-demand video CLE credit.

Multiple Victories for Joni Thome and Scott Moriarity

Victory Against Business Owner Who Evaded Sexual Harassment Lawsuit: In a Hennepin County court on September 9, 2021, Baillon Thome Jozwiak & Wanta LLP attorneys Joni Thome and Scott Moriarity won a judgment against a business owner who fraudulently evaded a sexual harassment lawsuit. Joni won a judgment against the business in August 2018. At first the BTJW team was unable to collect the judgment, but through her work in another case, Joni discovered that the owner changed the name of his business in order to avoid the judgment.
