Thome Cited in Strib Regarding Workers Fired for Wearing Nazi Apparel

August 18, 2017 - Firm partner Joni Thome was cited in yesterday’s Star Tribune article concerning two employees who were fired for wearing Nazi uniforms. “In Minnesota…employees can be terminated for a good reason, a bad reason or no reason at all, just so long as it’s not an illegal reason.” Here, the employees have little recourse to contest their terminations.

Wanta Interviewed on WI Company Offering Microchipping to Employees

August 3, 2017 – This week, firm partner Shawn Wanta was interviewed about the recent decision by Wisconsin tech company Three Square Marketing to begin embedding radio-frequency identification (RFID) microchips into its employees. While touted as a security measure for the company and a convenience to employees, the move raises questions about employee privacy.

Jozwiak Co-Authors Article on Drafting Effective Settlement Agreements

July 10, 2017 - Firm partner Chris Jozwiak co-authored an article that was published in the July 2017 issue of Bench & Bar of Minnesota, the official publication of the Minnesota State Bar Association. Titled “Effective Drafting for Employment Settlement Agreements,” the feature examines how both parties in an employment law dispute can benefit from a simplified and concise settlement agreement.

Six BTJW Attorneys Named 2017 Minnesota Super Lawyers and Rising Stars

July 6, 2017 – This week, Super Lawyers announced that six Baillon Thome Jozwiak & Wanta LLP attorneys were named to the 2017 Minnesota Super Lawyers and Rising Stars lists. Frances Baillon, Joni Thome and Chris Jozwiak were recognized again as Super Lawyers for their work on behalf of employees in employment ligitation. Dustin Massie and Matt Nolan were named Rising Stars in employment litigation-plaintiffs. Shawn Wanta was named again as a Rising Star in class actions.

Wanta Joins MSBA Consumer Litigation Section Governing Council

June 13, 2017 – Firm partner Shawn Wanta was elected to the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Consumer Litigation Section Governing Council. Shawn is a founding partner of Baillon Thome Jozwiak & Wanta LLP and leads the firm’s consumer litigation and class action practice groups. His three-year term on the Council begins July 1, 2017.

Joni joined workers’ compensation attorney and expert Tom Atkinson to share their experiences in jointly representing clients who have both workers’ compensation and employment-related claims.

April 20, 2017 - Chris Jozwiak was again published in the updated second edition of The Complete Employment Lawyer’s Quick Answer Book, a comprehensive reference guide for employment lawyers. Chris’s chapter in the book, “Employment Conditions,” explores a range of issues that arise in the everyday workplace, including drug and alcohol testing, the various employee leaves available under Minnesota and federal law, privacy rights, paycheck deductions, and other related employment laws.
